Sand of Imperfection
Sand of Imperfection
Grains of sand
minute
inconsequential alone
Piled
allowed to gather
form a mound
dune
a beach
Piece by piece
I tried to move
change
sweep
clear my beach
the sand of my imperfections
But what is a beach
with no sand
Waves crash
and pull
stray grains
into the sea
Winds swirl
away what
doesn’t belong
But sand remains
without sand
there is no beach

This poem was also written while I was in the treatment center. We were given an assignment to write a poem about rock and sand (rock being a stable place, sand being unstable) but I took the assignment much differently than what was expected…go figure.
